COUNTIF

math

Counts the number of cells that meet a single condition.

Syntax

=COUNTIF(range, criteria)

Example

Excel
=COUNTIF(A:A, "Yes")

Counts how many cells in column A contain the word "Yes".

Tips & Notes

  • →Use wildcards for partial matches: =COUNTIF(A:A,"*apple*")
  • →Count numbers: =COUNTIF(A:A,">100")
  • →Case-insensitive by default
